Abstract

A novel technique is presented to enhance the gain of a rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) over a wideband. The antenna structure achieves a 16 GHz bandwidth of relative bandwidth of 27.5 % in the 60 GHz band. The peak realized gain is 12.6 dBi with a total antenna radiation efficiency of 96 %. Printed Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) technology has been used to feed the antenna and eliminate any parasitic radiation from the feed line. The antenna is suitable for high data rate short-range personal area networks applications at millimeter wave frequencies.
