Abstract
Tiruchirappalli is the most important city located at the centre of the state of Tamil Nadu. A tributary of river Cauvery, Uyyakondan channel flows in the heart of the city. The channel water samples were collected during summer and rainy seasons for 3 successive year ( April 2001-December 2003 ). Statistical approaches to water quality evaluation are applied to the channel water at selected stations. Based on the data obtained, the water quality indices have been calculated using different methods.
