Abstract
Vegetable oil (VO)-based polymer nanocomposites for surface applications have been developed throughout the previous decade. Chemically, VO is made up of fatty acids and glycerol. VO-based polymers are non-toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible. In addition to these properties, VO-based polymer nanocomposites have interesting coating and bactericidal properties. Biopolymers are environmentally friendly since they are destroyed by naturally existing organisms, resulting in organic by-products. Functionaliztion of VO-based biopolymers via nanocomposites technology has been accomplished apace to improve the drawbacks associated with their physical, mechanical and thermal properties. This augments the use of VO-based biopolymers in biomedical applications such as tissue engineering, wound dressings and anti-microbial applications.
