Abstract
A detailed study of the effects of mold vibration on the microstructure and properties of aluminum alloys is presented. The effects of vibration amplitude and frequency on the solidification kinetics, microstructure formation and mechanical properties were examined. Results show strong influence of mold vibration on the resulting casting. The changes in microstructure and mechanical properties can be successfully represented by the changes in solidification characteristics. In addition, the presence of porosity was significantly reduced as a result of mold vibration.
