Abstract

In this review article, the recent research works on thermoplastic polymer composites with micro and/or nano calcium phosphates as a matrix or filler/ modifier will be covered. The introductory part will discuss and summarize the various aspects of preparation and characterization of phosphates. The second part will deal with the preparation, properties and characterization of polymer composites especially based on thermoplastics such as polyolefins, polystyrenes, poly vinyl acetates and thermoplastic elastomers. The biodegradation properties of the composites will be highlighted due to the inherent biodegradability of the phosphates. The applications and uses of phosphate based composites will also be briefly discussed.
