Abstract
An extensive project has been undertaken at the Mindola mine of the Rokana Division of Nchanga Consolidated Copper Mines, Ltd. , to develop copper ore reserves at greater depths. Currently, an adequate working environment is maintained with an air intake of 1000 m**3/sec and 3500-kW effective cooling power is available to the stoping sections and non-producing areas. The problem in future will be that unsatisfactory thermal conditions will hamper stope development and mine productivity. The factors that influence the heat problem in Mindola and the results obtained from an investigation into the likely significance of heat generation are considered here.
