Abstract
Thermal accommodation coefficient, alpha , of argon on gas-covered platinum surface is determined by two hot-wire type instruments in the temperature range 300-1350 K from heat transfer rate data taken in the temperature-jump region. The alpha data so obtained from a hot-wire cell operating in the conventional mode and from the conductivity column are compared with the available data in the literature. These alpha data are critically analyzed in the light of adsorption characteristics of gases on metal surfaces and the reported details of the experimental conditions of each investigation. A synthesized data set is recommended for commonly used surfaces in engineering applications.
