Abstract
This paper presents a rigorous theoretical analysis of a thulium doped fiber amplifier (TDFA) operating at around 1900 nm. The performance of the amplifier is analyzed based on the concentration of Tm3+ ions, TDF length, and the pumping power, respectively. A broadband gain of around 41 dB is demonstrated for a Tm3+ doped fiber length of 10 m, and an optimized pump power of 400 mW, while employing an in-band pumping scheme. The minimum noise figure of 4.15 dB is achieved within a broad bandwidth of around 120 nm.
