Abstract
The role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) has evolved from managing operational IT tasks to driving digital transformation and innovation and being part of organizations' board of directors and top management. However, the increasing complexity of digital technologies and the organizational landscape presents challenges to CIO tenure and survival in office. This research aims to replicate and extend Dawson et al.'s (2015) paper by utilizing survival analysis techniques to study CIO survival in the years 2009 and 2020 empirically. The study findings aim to contribute to Information Systems Strategic Leadership and strategic management research streams by enhancing our understanding of CIO turnover and survival dynamics, renewing the current literature on CIO turnover influenced by technological evolution and other factors, and supporting effective organizational succession planning and recruitment strategies.
