Abstract
The specific heat of Pr(Ni1-cCoc)5 compounds with c ≤ 0.20 has been measured at temperatures between 1.5 and 50 K. The substitution of Co for Ni is found to reduce the height of the large peak observed in the specific heat of PrNi5 and to increase the peak temperature. The reduction of the peak height is explained by the effect of the exchange field of Co on Pr3+ ions. The substitution appears to modify the crystal field parameters.
