Abstract
For the first time, convex optimization is applied to the design of multilayer optical coatings. We present two different approaches to approximate the design problem as a convex optimization problem. This problem is then efficiently solved using interior point methods. Our formulation is fast and flexible, allowing the designer to add any number of constraints. The results show that the used approximation is tight and has a good match with the exact solution.
