Abstract
The ternary equilibrium data for the system acetic acid-mesityl oxide-water were determined at different temperatures. The results showed no significant effect of temperature on the solubility area. However, addition of about 10% sodium chloride increased the area under the binodal curve by more than 40%. The tie line data were also determined. These data proved that mesityl oxide particularly in presence of salt is a promising solvent for acetic acid extraction from aqueous solutions.
