Abstract

A closed-form model for the computation of temperature distribution, in an infinitely extended isotropic body with Gamma-type, point-, line-, and plane-heat sources is discussed. The temperature solutions for these heat sources are discussed for time-dependent heat sources of the forms: (i) Q1(t) = Q0 exp(-λt), and (ii) Q2(t) = Q0(t/t) exp(-λt), where λ is a real number. The reduced (or dimensionless) temperature solutions are presented in terms of the generalized representation of an incomplete Gamma function Iα(b, x), which can also be expressed by known functions. It is also shown that the present analysis covers some well known (classical) solutions as well as family of new solutions.
