Abstract

A novel FCC process that maximizes propylene production is under development by research teams in Saudi Arabia and Japan. The high-severity FCC (HS-FCC) process combines mechanical modifications to conventional FCC with changes in process variables and catalyst formulations. A discussion covers the special features of high-severity FCC; main features of HS-FCC process; stages of process development; and results obtained from the 0.1 bpd riser and downer pilot plants and demonstration plant.
