Abstract

Magnesium–cobalt–layered double hydroxy (Mg–Co–LDH) material is synthesized by using co-precipitation and microemulsion method. The structure and composition of as-synthesized material are analyzed by XRD and SEM. In these materials, Mg and Co are found to lie at their alternative positions, having a tetrahedral structure. The as-synthesized material has basal spacing 8.1 Å and size is in the micrometer range. Adsorption and desorption behavior is studied by spectrophotometry. Mg–Co–LDH material shows that it can release the same amount of 4-nitrophenol as it has adsorbed from water. The basal spacing of 4-nitrophenol adsorbed Mg–Co–LDH material is more significant than Mg–Co–LDH material. The adsorption and desorption behavior of Mg–Co–LDH material is also studied in different pH medium. It is observed that Mg–Co–LDH material reveals different adsorption and desorption behavior in different pH medium. The calculations are calculated by statistical methods.
