Abstract
NH4CoPO46H2O has been synthesized from CoSO47H2O and (NH4)2HPO4 solutions at a pH controlled by an aqueous ammonia solution. The structure of NH4CoPO46H2O was determined by Rietveld refinement of X-ray laboratory powder diffraction data [s.g. Pmn2, with a=6.9403(2) Å, b=6.1457(2) Å, c=11.2190(1) Å, V=478.53 Å3, Z=2, and Vat-no-H=18.4 Å3/at]. The final R-factors were RWP=14.2 %, RF=8.0 %. The framework has isolated Co(OH2)62+ octahedra linked to regular PO43- and NH4+ tetrahedra by electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonds. IR data and the thermal behaviour of this compound are given and discussed on the basis of its crystal structure.
