Abstract

In microseismic study, traces with low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are considered an intractable issue, especially in surface monitoring arrays. To alleviate this problem, we propose to use the supervirtual interferometry (SVI) approach to enhance the SNR of the recorded traces. The key idea is to generate diffraction gathers by convolving different traces, then calculate the common negative-positive pair gathers by correlation and convolution, and finally stack similar traces to obtain supervirtual traces with higher SNR. We tested the proposed method on 2D acoustic single-source and multiple-source cases.
