Abstract

Geology, sedimentation and arid climate influence the formation of the calcareous clay in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. This study discusses the geotechnical and physicochemical properties, mineralogical composition and swelling characteristics of this soil. The estimation of swell potential was obtained based on laboratory and field swelling tests. A major difference between the two approaches was observed. -Author
