Abstract

Hexane-soluble oils from hydrogenolysis of three different coals were investigated to characterize the chemical structure and its relation to the coal rank. The separation of the oils was carried out by means of high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). The fractions were analyzed by mass spectroscopy (MS). It is shown that the HPLC-MS procedure is useful for routine characterization of the chemical structure of oils derived from coal liquids.
