Abstract

This paper presents comprehensive analysis of the effects of the generator mechanical power change on its stability using the famous Equal Area Criterion method. An interactive software for the comprehension of transient stability using the equal area criterion method and time domain simulation method, developed by the authors, was used for the analysis. The examples presented are for the single-machine infinite bus power system with the addition of line conductances, machine damping and inertia effects. A conclusion is drawn from the given test cases on the limitations of maximum power transferred and generator stability during a disturbance of a sudden Pm-change on the system.
