Abstract

The stability of the stationary solutions of the TE0 mode in a waveguide made of a nonlinear saturable thin film bounded by linear media is investigated. Symmetric and asymmetric waveguide configurations are considered. It is found that stable solutions are associated with dP/dne>0 and unstable solutions are associated with dP/dne<0, where P is the guided power and n e is the mode index.
