Abstract

Spreadsheet programs can be used as a tool for computation and analysis to enhance the learning process. Engineering students are increasingly using spreadsheets for solving problems, especially those requiring repetitive calculations. This article shows how an advanced spreadsheet program may be used in the learning of numerical solutions of the two-dimensional diffusion equation using the DuFort-Frankel explicit method. Examples and numerical results are given.
