Abstract

Applications of solid base catalysts are all in petrochemical processes, no petroleum refining processes uses solid base catalysts. A discussion on the fundamentals of solid base catalysts covers the generation of basic sites; materials of solid base catalysts; and representative solid base-catalyzed reactions, e.g., double bond isomerization of olefins, dehydration of alcohols, and hydrogenation of olefins. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 20th Annual Saudi-Japan Symposium on Catalysts in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals (Dharan, Saudi Arabia 12/5-6/2010).
