Abstract

Following a brief introduction to the concept and technology of salt gradient solar ponds, several of the pond projects which have been or are currently being carried out by the Research Institute/UPM are described. Typical results are presented from both numerical modelling and experimental measurement projects. New facilities being planned to support the program are also discussed. Salt gradient solar ponds represent effective, economic solar collection/storage devices which are particularly adaptable to the Arabian Gulf area sabkhas.
