Abstract
This article seeks to identify perceptions and experiences of practitioners about critical barriers (CBs) that can undermine the implementation of Software Process Improvement (SPI) programs. The objective of this study is to summarise CBs and provide guidelines about them to avoid them. The results of this article provide advice to SPI managers and practitioners on what and how to address CBs when developing SPI implementation initiatives.
