Abstract
This review explores the pivotal role of six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) robotic arms in additive manufacturing (AM), emphasizing their diverse applications, underlying mechanisms, slicing, techniques, control systems, and advantages over traditional methods. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the benefits offered by 6-DOF robots, including enhanced flexibility, precision, and adaptability, while also addressing the limitations and challenges associated with their deployment. Through a detailed examination of various industry applications and case studies across aerospace, automotive, and healthcare, this review highlights the transformative impact of 6-DOF robotic systems on AM processes. Furthermore, it identifies emerging trends and future research directions, offering valuable insights and recommendations for industry practitioners aiming to adopt or optimize AM techniques with advanced 6-DOF robotic technologies.
