Abstract

In this paper, highly accurate closed-form approximations for the outage probability of equal-gain combining and maximal-ratio combining receivers operating on independent identically distributed α-µ fading channels are proposed. The proposed approximations turns out to be simple, effective, and highly accurate tool for evaluating the outage probability of diversity systems. As will be observed, for practical purposes, approximate and exact solutions are indistinguishable from each other.
