Abstract

Silicalite-1 was synthesized, and its catalytic activity was studied in the reaction of C4-C6 olefins. Silicalite-1 exhibited a higher yield of propylene as compared with H-ZSM-5 zeolites with a Si/Ab ratio of 23-280 due to minimization of hydrogen transfer reaction. It was proposed that the weakly acidic silanol groups on silicalite-1 acted as active sites for the formation of propylene at a high temperature. Strongly acidic OH groups bridged to Si and Al promote hydrogen transfer to consume olefins to form paraffins and aromatics. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 25th Annual Saudi-Japan Symposium on Catalysts in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals 2015 (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia 12/7-8/2015).
