Abstract

Recent work on the development of analog LSI signal processing modules is reviewed. The fact that low accuracy multiplication may be achieved very efficiently using analog MOS circuit techniques makes the use of analog sampled-data circuits such as CCD's most attractive especially where the basic function of convolution or correlation is required. This is because many multiplications and additions may be carried out at high speed in parallel on a single analog integrated circuit. Apart from the convolutional processors, the use of analog MOS techniques in the realization of switched-capacitor (s-c) and analog realizations of so-called wave-digital filters is also investigated. It is shown that particular functional blocks may be applied successfully to a number of different applications in signal processing, although it has been necessary in the past to design analog circuits for specific purposes. This is an aspect of circuit design which will undoubtedly become increasingly important with the ever-rising cost of designing and fabricating custom circuits, specially of the analog type, even though the highly repetitive nature of many analog CCD circuits tends to reduce the required design effort.
