Abstract

A costly problem encountered in sandstone reservoirs is the production of sand with the produced fluids. We have developed a user-friendly computer program to identify potential sanding locations in the payzone. Various poro-elastic and elasto-plastic sand prediction models available in the literature included. Using Visual BasicTM, an interactive windowsTM program has been developed. The package is readily usable by field engineers to determine critical flowrate and drawdown without a prior knowledge of the theories of rock failure. The simulator can also be used during planning stages to access the effect of depletion and improved recovery methods (such as water flooding) on sand production.
