Abstract

Polyurethanes (PUs) have emerged as a significant group of biomaterials owing to their distinctive and excellent mechanical properties and also their biocompatibility. The successful incorporation of biodegradable moieties, particularly renewable resources in the backbone of PUs can lead to an enhancement in the biodegradable characteristics of the same. Such biodegradable and biocompatible PUs obtained from renewable resources can find biomedical applications such as in drug delivery and tissue engineering. This chapter mainly highlights PUs based on renewable resources, particularly vegetable oils and polysaccharides and their biomedical applications.
