Abstract
The corrosion effect on the steel bar in reinforced concrete is one of the major issues for the durability of concrete throughout the world. The service life of each type of building structure is severely damaged by reinforcement corrosion, which results in billions of dollars annually in repair and maintenance. Therefore, evaluating and monitoring the corrosion of steel bars embedded in reinforced concrete in terms of safety and maintenance is the main theme of this paper. The rust layer initiated on steel bars causes expansion and concrete cracking of cover due to swelling pressure (tensile stress) inside the concrete. The loss of bond and cross-section results in the loss or destruction of load sustaining and defraying capacity of the corroding structural members.
