Abstract

Olefins react with carbon monoxide and oxalic acid, catalysed by palladium acetate in the presence of 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane, to give linear carboxylic acids regioselectively or regiospecifically. This process shows excellent functional group tolerance.
