Abstract

The objectives of the study were to: evaluate methanol as an organic solvent for the regeneration of spent granular activated carbon; examine the effectiveness of this process using five commercially available granular activated carbons selected to cover a wide range of adsorbent raw materials and characteristics; and determine the effects of adsorbate size and molecular weight on the efficiency of the solvent regeneration process. The regeneration characteristics of five commercially available granular activated carbons with methanol were evaluated.
