Abstract

The Christoffel equations of an effective Biot medium are solved for a general harmonic plane waves and the three complex velocities obtained corresponding to the shear wave (SV), fast-P wave (fP) and slow-P wave (sP), together with their polarisations. We consider an incident inhomogeneous wave on the free surface of an effective Biot solid and obtain expressions for the reflected waves. As an example, the energy partitioning for an incident SV wave are calculated. The free-surface reflection results are compared with those reflected for classic Biot material and found to differ.
