Abstract

Solar energy systems have a high market demand and minimal heat loss, whereby they are frequently used to convert solar energy into a form of thermal energy that can be used for different purposes. In determining maximum output of solar systems, various authors have investigated different kinds of geometric modifications and inserts in their studies. The current purpose of this review specially focusses on recent widely used inserts in solar systems, especially differing inserts applied by researchers in their studies. The results of these authors indicated that revolutionary thermal increments have been observed in these studies, where it is necessary to summarise and discuss these in the form of a review. In the current review study, different modifications discussed related to flat plate collector, compound parabolic collector, solar air collector, parabolic trough solar collector, heat exchanger, solar still, and direct absorption solar collectors are discussed in detail with their limitations. The results findings of these authors indicated that these medications have significantly improved the thermal performance of these systems. To attract readers, the status of research on solar systems using geometric modifications is also highlighted in this review, with details regarding which countries, authors, and journals are focusing more on this area. This is a indication of how much work has been done in this research area which is highlighted in the current review. Lastly, some future works and recommendations are presented in this review, which will help researchers to further explore this area, towards improving the thermal performance of solar systems.
