Abstract
Polyolefin, in particular polyethylene, with various types such as low-density, linear low-density, and high-density polyethylene offers exceptional features including reshapability, surface smoothness, and chemical resistance, and is lighter in comparison with metal- and glass-based materials. Polyolefin is the major product of the global plastics industry which largely contributes to commodity products. The property enhancement and/or improvement of polyethylene is proposed via the formation of their composites with the incorporation of fillers. Among various fillers, nitride-based fillers have made significant progress in recent years and, hence, this review provides an insight into the role of these nitride-based fillers including group 13- and group 14-based nanomaterials, in affecting the intrinsic properties of polyethylene leading to their corresponding nanocomposites. Moreover, the impact of nitride-based filler properties such as their type, content, and their synergy with polyolefin matrix is discussed.
