Abstract
The condensation of o-aminobenzenthiol with 2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde yields 2-thiazolin-2-ylthiophene rather than the expected Schiff base. However, upon reaction with metal ions, the thiazoline rearranges to the expected thiolate Schiff base. Complexes of the Schiff base with Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn, Cd, Pb(II), Ag(I) and Pd(II) have been isolated and characterized.
