Abstract

Three different barchan dunes, crescentic, whale-back and dome like shield were monitored for a period of 18 months. Monitoring included the periodical surveying of the slip face advance of the three dunes, the measurement of drifting sand using sand traps on two of these dunes, and the monitoring of wind speed and wind direciton on the two dunes. An equation was derived based on the sand trap data to express the magnitude of the drifting sand. The equation was also based on the threshold velocity predicted using the sand trap data. -Authors
