Abstract
A hot-wire column instrument was employed to determine the hemispherical total emittance of nickel in the temperature range 500 to 1200 K. The nickel wire was used as a resistance thermometer and is calibrated by determining its resistivity at the triple point of water and the freezing points of tin, cadmium, zinc and aluminum. A check of resistivity and emittance data of nickel is made by determining the thermal conductivity of neon.
