Abstract

This paper reviews the utility maximization concept along with statistical treatment that has resulted into the development of a suitable methodology for the study of mode choice/demand relevant to urban transport planning decisions. It has been suggested as to what data are required in Indian context to develop a meaningful mode choice model. A method for calibration of the proposed model function has been put forward.
