Abstract
A systematic effort has been made to analyze the reported works on rust converters. The review starts with a concise description of the nature of rust formed and its role in the rust conversion process. Recently patented rust converting coating formulations are presented considering their high importance in industrial applications. Different types of rust converting compounds and their mechanisms of action compared. Novel rust conversion compounds and application procedures reported are highlighted. Potentials for future research and development discussed. The comprehensive information presented in this review will be helpful for both academic and industrial researchers working on rust converters in different application areas such as agriculture, power engineering, metallurgy, mining, chemical industries, military, petroleum industries, desalination, oil and gas sectors, construction, etc.
