Abstract
Microalgae, cyanobacteria, water hyacinth, waste cooking oil, and waste plastic oil are considered as a new generation of feedstock for the production of biodiesel. Their combustion, performance, and emission parameters are discussed in the chapter. Transesterification of lipids extracted from aquatic biomass such as microalgae, cyanobacteria, and water hyacinth is a cogeneration process because these feedstocks use environmental carbon dioxide and nutrients available in wastewater, so at the same time they generate lipids for biodiesel production and reduces the harmful substances from the environment. Biodiesel produced from these feedstocks may be considered a carbon neutral fuel. This is because biodiesel does not add any significant amount of carbon dioxide in the environment. Waste cooking oil is available in large quantities in every food industry, and its disposal is a problem. Generation of biodiesel through transesterification provides Economic and environmental benefits. The problem of disposal of waste plastic is also a global problem, as large amounts of plastic waste are added every day, and they threaten animal and human life. Pyrolysis of this plastic waste generates liquid oil, flammable gases, and a small amount of solid carbon. Pyrolysis of waste plastic is also a cogeneration, as it solves the problem of disposal of plastic waste and generates biodiesel at the same time. Biodiesel can be used in single-fuel mode, dual-fuel mode, and blending mode.
