Abstract

A series of zeolite beta and MCM-41 supported hydrocracking catalysts was prepared. In addition, commercial Y-zeolite was also used to prepare support for hydrocracking catalysts. Combinations of NiMo and NiW were used to load on the extruded supports by wetness incipient impregnation method. The synthesized zeolite beta and MCM-41 were characterized by XRD and by sorption analyzer for BET surface area and pore volume measurements. The prepared catalysts were evaluated for hydrocracking reaction using 1-methyl naphthalene in a micro flow reactor at 50 kg/cm2 pressure in the temperature range of 25- 350 °C for 3 hours. Hydrogenation, isomerization and cracking activities of the prepared catalysts were measured. Higher conversion along with higher hydrogenation and isomerization selectivity was found in case of beta-zeolite based catalyst as compared with other catalysts tested. MCM-41 based catalyst being lower in terms of acidity showed lower conversion and only isomerization products were obtained.
