Abstract

A Zeolite\Zinc Oxide-Copper oxide Nanocomposite (Zeolite\ZnO-CuO) was prepared via the facile chemical method and characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET Nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyzer, Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The FTIR spectrum showed the characteristic bands for metal oxide bonds. The average particles’ diameters, measured by FESEM, were in agreement with those calculated from XRD by the Scherrer equation, which was 25.9 and 56.2 nm for ZnO and CuO respectively. The prepared NC was evaluated for the antibacterial activity tested against Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis B29) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli E266). After sufficient bacterial growth (24 h), the NC showed remarkable antibacterial activity with 18.9 and 23.8 mm inhibition zones, against Bacillus subtilis B29 and Escherichia coli E266 respectively, under normal light and conditions.
