Abstract

Gulf states consist of six countries, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Saudia Arabia, the largest country in this region by area is the second largest oil producer and the leading oil exporter in the world. Qatar on the other hand is the third largest gas exporter in the world. Other smaller states have similar fossil fuel dependencies. Thus, the economy and financial stability of the region is currently almost solely reliant upon the use and export of fossil fuels. However, this is now changing. United Arab Emirates now has a fully operating nuclear power plant. Kingdom of Saudi Arabi is also working towards similar goals with their Vision 2030. It is only a matter of time that other smaller gulf states will follow suit shifting their reliance from fossil fuels to nuclear power generation.
