Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of power quality issues in a multi-motor system comprising a high-power variable speed drive (VSD) operating as a high-pressure pump and a lower-power booster pump directly connected to the supply. The interaction between these motors, particularly under varying operating conditions, introduces harmonics and current imbalances that adversely affect system performance and power quality. To address these challenges, a phase transposition technique is implemented as a mitigation strategy. Detailed simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed method equalizes the THD in all three phases with zero triplen harmonics in the phase currents. An improvement in the THD has been The results demonstrate significant improvements in power quality indices, confirming the efficacy of phase transposition in minimizing the negative impacts of unbalanced loading and harmonic distortion in such multi-motor configurations.
