Abstract

A pair of bpe-H⁺ ligands in a zwitter-ionic complex undergoes photochemical cycloaddition quantitatively accompanied by proton transfer and the cyclobutane ring isomerizes slowly in solution to two more isomers, catalyzed by CF₃CO₂H acid.
