Abstract
The textile industries which utilize a huge amount of dyes contribute a significant part in aqueous pollution in terms of chemical composition and volume of the discharged effluent. The effluents of textile industry contain a number of pollutants including a variety of organic dyes. These dyes are carcinogenic and impart color to aqueous body which prevents the solar radiation penetration inside the water body. Various experimental protocols have been used for treatment of these industrial effluents which include physical, chemical, acoustical and biological methods. However, these methods are not much effective. Photo catalysis is the most effective technique for treatment of these industrial effluents which completely degrade the toxic organic pollutants and dyes. This is one of the techniques called as advanced oxidation processes, AOPs. This report presents a review on photo catalysis of aqueous phase dyes.
