Abstract
Rapid quenching of two Al-Ru alloy melts containing 10 and 15 wt. % Ru resulted in the formation of a supersaturated solid solution in both cases. Subsequent annealing treatments above room temperature led to the detection of a metastable Al//2Ru phase having a cubic CaF//2-type structure with a equals 0. 563 nm and the equilibrium Al//6Ru phase having an orthorhombic structure with a equals 0. 7489, b equals 0. 6556, and c equals 0. 8961 nm. Electron microscopic investigations on the microstructural features of the alloys in the as-quenched as well as annealed condition are discussed in detail.
